Akin Isaac, 52, was sentenced to 21 years in prison on Thursday by an Ikeja Special Offenses Court for raping his 18-year-old daughter for 12 years in Lagos State.
Following the convict's admission of guilt to the single count brought against him by the Lagos State Government, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo gave him a 21-year prison term.
Omowumi Bajulaye-Bishi, the prosecutor for the state, stated in court during the arraignment that Isaac defiled his daughter from the age of six to the age of 18.
The prosecution asserts that the offence violated Section 137 of the 2015 Criminal Law Cap. C.17 Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State.
The court ruled that the ministry's suggested 21-year sentence was appropriate after she reviewed the plea deal the defendant signed with the state.
She asserted, "I knew this case very well; I could recall the survivor's tears as she spoke in court about her abortion and how the defendant had beaten her.
"Four witnesses who testified against the defendant were called by the prosecution. The defendant initially pled not guilty.”
Isaac responded by saying he had changed his plea. He began appealing with the judge to show him pity.
When evaluating the case's circumstances, Bajulaye-Bishi claimed that between 2014 and 2020, the defendant had illicit sex with his daughter, leading to at least one pregnancy.
"The defendant also tried to get her an abortion and often gave her medication to avoid getting pregnant.
"The trial began on February 7, 2022,
