The Provost of Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu, Dr. Phillips Nto has urged staff of the institution to be patient with the government as efforts are being made to address their arrears of salaries.
Addressing the Deans and Directors of the college in Arochukwu ahead of the commencement of the semester examination, Dr. Nto assured them that the current economic challenges would be put to rest.
He said the governor, Dr. Okezie ikpeazu has been passionate about the college and welfare of the Staff, contrary to what some enemies of the government have been saying.
According to him, although ASCETA is a parastatal that ought to generate and spend its own funds, Gov Okezie ikpeazu has never relented in releasing subvention to it.
He said he has received assurances from the governor who is an educationist that the entire salaries saga would soon be a thing of the past.
Dr. Nto however frowned at the activities of disengaged Staff of the institution who have been claiming that they are owed 31 months arrears of salaries.
He urged them to continue to work hard and prove critics wrong concerning their capacity and productivity.
The Provost reassured them of the readiness of management to ensure that their welfare and academic development remain a top priority.
Responding on behalf of the Senior Academic Staff, the Deputy Provost, Dr. Solomon Iheonunekwu, commended the Provost for always protecting the interest of staff since his assumption of office.
Dr. Iheonunekwu noted that apart from the monumental achievements of the Provost in the areas of infrastructure, he has been upfront with the staff welfare.
He apologized to Dr. Nto for the recent indiscretions of some staff, assuring him that majority of them were happy with his administration.
He urged him not to be discouraged, but to continue to interface with the government to find a solution to the current challenges.
