In Kaura village, in the Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, no less than seven members of a family have reportedly passed away from suspected food poisoning.

The head of the victims' family, Mallam Umaru, who confirmed the news, claimed that the food the victims had consumed the night before had been put outside for preservation and that it had been combined with other prepared foods the victims had consumed.

According to Umaru, the victims allegedly passed away after eating the food, and their bodies and any remaining food have been given to the hospital and police so that they can investigate how they passed away.

Umaru claimed that among the seven fatalities were his two wives and five kids.

In response to the occurrence, Haliru Kilgori, the chairman of the Yabo LGA, expressed sympathy to the hurt family and asked the people to exercise caution.

The chairman declared that it was crucial to investigate what had occurred, take appropriate measures, and make sure that food and beverages were always covered.

When reached, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, the state police public relations officer, acknowledged the event but promised to come back to our correspondent with more information.

As at the time this report was written, he still hadn't done so.

A top health official from the state Ministry of Health also confirmed the occurrence while speaking to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity.

However, he discounted the possibility of poisoning, claiming that the food had been tainted and was unfit for human eating because it had been exposed to air overnight.
